Rise, Sir David: Football Legend Honoured by the Monarch at Royal Windsor Ceremony

The football icon received a honorary title at the historic royal residence on the weekday. The ex-national team leader, 50, was among those receiving awards for his services to athletics and philanthropy. In recent months, he stated he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Soccer Achievements

Beckham made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils in 1995 and was a key member that earned a thrilling Champions League final victory in the late nineties when they beat the German giants with last-minute strikes.

In total, he netted 85 goals and garnered accolades including multiple English championships and two FA Cups as a soccer professional, before ending his playing career in 2013. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has backed a number of charity causes, including serving as a charitable representative for global aid group Unicef since 2005.

Charitable and Other Roles

Last year, the sports star, who has described himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an official representative for the royal educational charity, an educational charity established by the King in the early nineties. In 1998 he was declared top fashion icon by a leading publication and he has modelled for brands like the fashion retailer, Armani, and Boss.

Beckham married his wife Victoria in 1999 and the couple have four children together – their eldest, the second son, Cruz, and their daughter.
