Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
